Here are furkids who are currently in foster care and ready to begin meeting Forever Families. Since all of our pups are in a loving foster homes, as we get to know their personalities and needs, we then write their bios. If you do not see a story for a particular dog, that means he or she has just recently become a furkid. When we know more about those furkids, we will write their bios. Since our foster moms and dads have the 'first right of adoption' many of our furkids will not have bios written, as their foster families know all about them. Hello friends

My name is Georgie Girl (or you can call me GiGi for short.) I’m a tiny little girl who is a lover and a cuddler. Mom calls me her cuddlebug, but I don't know why because I'm not a bug at all! But I just let her do it, it seems to make her happy. She says I'm 10 lbs of pure love. I’m great with big people and small people. I like to play and walk, jump and even run, and I have quite a story to tell.

You see as little as I am, I am also a survivor. I was abandoned and left to fend for myself on the streets, a wee little girl of about ten pounds. While I was on my own I was attacked by some big dogs -- and they hurt me. Then my Aunties at Bichon FurKids found me and took me in. They took me to the vet and he said that I was an amazing little girl and one who had obviously learned how to survive. Oh yeah, the other thing i should tell you is that I had to have this thing called an operation because my leg was hurt so badly. Now I have three legs and feel so much better.

Missing one leg doesn’t hurt or bother me at all and makes me a bit unique as well. And when you are cuddling with me you would never know that I had a problem in the world.

While I’m as affectionate as I can be with people, (Did I tell you I love people?) I am not good with other dogs. You see I keep thinking they might want to hurt me and that makes me fearful and aggressive at the same time. My foster Dad says that is not unusual given what happened to me. And he says that I do so well with people that my perfect home would include people I can love but no other dogs or cats please... not even little ones!

Hello World,

My name is Aiden -- and I’m a handsome, attentive and affectionate "man sized" Bichon of about two, weighing 20 lbs. My foster Dad calls me his buddy because I like to go wherever he goes and do whatever he is doing. He says that I’m housebroken, never mark (and that is not a typo!) and am as smart as I am handsome! Because I am so smart, I need my human companion to be even smarter and more dog-savvy than most – so that I know, without any doubt, that he or she is in charge!)

Want a walking buddy to get you out and about? Then I’m your guy. I am very well behaved and very responsive. If Dad tells me to do something, I do it (because I really want to please him.) Dad says I also ride well in the car - and like that a lot, too - and that I’m affectionate!

My favorite thing in the world wide world is to cuddle and snuggle. When I first got to Dad’s, however, I used to get a little cranky if he told me to get off the couch (‘cause that’s the best place to cuddle) or get away from the door, or not to jump on his friends (you see I thought that was the way to get them to pet and cuddle with me.) But, and here’s the good news: I’m smart and want to please so I have learned some really good manners! Since then Dad taught me a neat command called "Off" and I have learned that being polite gets me a lot more affection – and the right kind of attention!

Because I’m a very cute and friendly guy, Dad says that little people think I’m a big cuddly toy. Of course I’m not -- so he says I need to be in a home without little ones please! Dad says I can also get a little bossy with some other dogs. Some I like and others I’d prefer to not be around. I just say I am particular about my friends.

So if want a cuddly, smart and adorable little fellow who can be the center of your world (and wants to be) and if you are savvy and willing to be in charge, please complete our application. Hello World,

We are Molly and Jenna, a mother and daughter bonded pair. Our foster parents said to tell you that I, Molly, am a bundle of love and energy, all of two years old and I’m the Mom. Jenna is my puppy who is a sweet and happy girl of one. We weigh about 12 and 13 pounds now, have beautiful white hair and are happy, active, joyful bichons.

In our foster home we have two doggy foster brothers and a LOT of cats. We get along well with everyone however Mom says that Jenna and I like to be with each other best of all. She says we share everything… we even carry one toy between us. And when we sleep, we sleep on top of or next to one another (with some part of me touching Jenna and some part of Jenna touching me.) Dad says he has never seen anything quite like the love we have for one another!

Mom says we love to tumble and chase one another -- and that the back yard is a perfect place for us. While we adore the yard, we also know how to walk very nicely on our leashes, are housebroken and are angels in the car! Oh and we like to snuggle, sleep quietly in the big people bed and have very sweet and playful spirits.

The Delicate and Divine Divas

Hello World,

My name is Barney and I’m an adorable little bichon of nine months. My Mom called me Barney because I am so friendly and optimistic (but she doesn’t think that I’m a purple tyrannosaurus, really!) Dad says I’m called Barney because I have a great imagination, can entertain myself and can sing! (Well Dad calls it singing… I call it puppy talk!)

Mom says I am very gentle and loving, (a wonderful combination) a real gentleman and an easy boy to have around -- as I get along with just about anyone and everyone. I love all my doggy foster brothers (they are so neat and look like me!), ignore the kitties that share our home (they like that!) and love people. Why, I’d probably even like giraffes and elephants if I met them ‘cause I’m just that loving and sweet.

Even though I’m still a young puppy, I’m pretty mellow. I like to play with my toys, only chew on the things Mom and Dad give me (bones and stuffed toys, please Mom and Dad) and love to ride in the car. Mom says I’m really smart too – why I mastered the doggy door in one day and am already housebroken. (Dad was very impressed!) And, you should see me when I’m listening. Since I like to make people happy, I look up at their faces for direction, then figure out what I'm supposed to do next. (It's pretty easy, actually!) And in return they give me lots and lots of love. And love is my very favoritest thing in the whole wide world!

Mom says I would love to play but for now have to be quite content just sitting in her lap, or in my bed, and being petted. You see I have to do something called ‘cage rest’ for right now ‘cause I have something called a broken pelvis. The good news is that it is healing on its own – and as soon as Mom and the nice vet tell me, I will be able to run like the wind and play, play, play. (In the meantime I’m an amazingly good boy who seems to know that I have to be quiet in order to heal … and so, I am!)

As you can see from my picture, I'm not very big, I am (!) very friendly and quite adorable too! My perfect home will have people around most of the time – and maybe another FurKid. Having a special person I can love and adore, and a doggy buddy, is what I want most in the world!

Hello World!

I'm DeeDee, a tiny and gentle little Bichon girl of about seven who weighs almost 8 pounds, is playful and as sweet as can be. My foster Mom says that I’m a very special young lady who is adorable, smart, good natured and very lovable – and that’s just for starters! (Can you tell she likes me a lot?!)

Mom also says to tell you that I love other dogs! In my foster home I have a doggy foster brother and sister. I especially like to play with my sister. She’s a puppy and I’m teaching her how to have wonderful manners like mine. I also have a good time meeting new dogs on our walks – I think everyone I meet is a potential new pal (and they like me too, you can just tell!)

Dad says that I have never met a stranger-- and that I think anybody who comes to see him or Mom is there to see me. (Well, aren't they?) They quickly see how well behaved I am and how loving. I never jump up on people - I just wait quietly to be petted and held. Mom says I’m very dainty and lady-like – and that I’m also very gentle, calm and sweet!

Mom says I love to explore the world outside and to ride in the car. I also love take naps - and get an A++ in snuggling and cuddling! Of course I’m housebroken and never chew things I’m not supposed to. When I want attention, I just let Mom know that I'm there. I look up at her with my sweet, big brown eyes, and listen carefully to everything she tells me. At nap time, I crawl onto the back of the sofa and go to sleep. And at the end of the day, I sleep contentedly on the ‘big bed’. We all snuggle together and I'm the happiest little bichon on the planet.

While I love my foster family, I’m really looking for a forever family to call my own – and hope it might be one with another furkid there too! Mom says to tell you that whenever we meet you’ll realize that I'm "a keeper."

MEETING ADOPTERS

Hi Everyone.

I’m Picasso, a very handsome, gentle, smart and appreciative senior Bichon of about 12 years. I’m a sweet and loyal guy who is patient (with other dogs and people), mellow and very smart… the type of guy who loves everyone (You should see me at the front door – I am quite the greeter!) but does so in a quiet kind of way. I’m just happy to be safe and in a loving home once again.

You see one day, not so very long ago, my mom and dad had to move away – so they told me to be a brave boy and they took me to the shelter. They had me groomed and I looked very handsome – but no one came to get me as the shelter was very far away. I wondered if I would ever have a home of my own again – but I got lucky and became a furkid. I wasn’t sure about the car ride at first because I didn’t know where I was going. But my foster mom is really nice and very kind, so I started to relax.

When I got to my foster home the very best thing happened: there were other FurKids there. And I found a new buddy. His name is Henry Jack. Mom swears that I ‘talk’ to him – then we both wag our tails and start to play. She says that I am always very gentle when I play with Henry Jack ‘cause I am bigger than he is – but if you asked Henry Jack he’d say I’m always gentle and patient no matter what we are doing.

Dad calls me ‘a real gem.’ He says to tell you that I’m housebroken, sweet as can be and always seem to know what I’m supposed to do (or not do.) For example Dad says I chew only on my chewee (When Mom works on the computer I like to bring it in to the room, lay down near her and chew contentedly away while she works.) I also know how to bark but I rarely do so – instead I make a soft ‘cooing’ sound. I ride well in the car and am getting to take longer and longer walks now. You see before I became a FurKid I needed better nutrition and exercise than what I was getting. Now I take short walks every day, go up and down stairs and play in the backyard. Life is good!

And, according to Mom, I am the bestest and most loyal buddy she has ever known. She says I follow her throughout the house, quietly basking in her company. Then, when it’s dark, I go to the bedroom, walk over to my bed and stare at it – then up at Mom. Since Mom’s smart she figured out that I was asking if it’s time to go to sleep. And when she says yes, well then I fluff up my blankie and settle in for the night without another sound.

As you can see, I’m very mellow and easy to have around. Mom says I also understand every word she says to me – and that when I look up at her with my big, brown soulful eyes that I can get anything I want.

Patient and Playful Picasso

Greetings, everyone!

My name is Jimmy, and I can't wait to tell you a little about myself. You see, I'm not exactly like most of the other guys here, so I'm looking for a very, very special person to be my BFF (best friend forever!). I'm an adult bichon, white with some apricot coloring, and my foster Mom thinks I'm the greatest guy ever, so read more if you want to hear my story.

Now this is kind of embarrassing, but as you can see from my photos, I'm a little, uh, extra fluffy. (It's not my fault. I had a thyroid problem that caused me to gain weight). So I have to be on a diet. Have you ever been on a diet? It's not much fun. But I try to keep a positive attitude. Also, I have some arthritis in my legs, but now that the nice people at the vet have started giving me pain medication, I'm feeling better every day. Because I still have some pain, though, I don't always like to be picked up, so I would probably match best with a house that doesn't have kids. Only a caring adult (or two) who knows how to be careful with a sensitive guy like me, and who will be willing to take their time getting to know me.

Anyway, let's move on to the positive stuff, so you can see what a 'catch' I am. First of all, I am completely housebroken. I will bark at the door if I need to go out, so that you know right away. I ride very quietly in the car (as long as somebody lifts me up into it). And not to brag, but my Mom says I am a great guy to take to the dog park. I walk around and meet all the other people and dogs, and get along great with everybody. A couple of times she almost thought I was going to go home with some other family!

Now, because I'm a little on the chubby side, I still can't walk very far, so if you're looking for a guy who doesn't need too much serious exercise, that would be me. But I still love my walks, even if they're kind of short. In fact, when my Mom gets out the leash, I start doing this thing that she calls my "happy dance". I kind of waddle side to side and roll my head - so much that she can barely get the leash on me. She always bursts out laughing when I do that, and I have to wait for her to compose herself before we can walk. Sheesh.

My Mom also says I am a total love bug. I get really happy if somebody lifts me onto the couch where I can curl up next to my people and doggie foster brothers. And I just love to sleep at the foot of the big bed with everybody. I also do this thing that everybody thinks is really funny. I will take my Nylabone dog toy out in the yard and chew on it. And then when it's time for a nap, I will just roll over on my back in the sun, holding the Nylabone up in the air with my paws.

See that big smile on my face in the picture? That's how happy I get just thinking about a person to call my very own. So if you're the kind of special person, with a generous heart, who wants a guy like me to love forever and ever, please write and ask for Jimmy. I'll be here!

Hey, everyone!

My name is Skipper. I'm a tiny little puppy of four months who weighs less than seven pounds - and is looking to find just the right home to grow up in.

Let me tell you a little about myself. Well, like any puppy, I just love to play. And play. And play. I could play all day long! And you know what is my favorite toy in the whole wide world? Do you give up? It's my people! I especially like when they get down on my level so that I can jump into their laps, or give them kisses or bat at their hands, face or anything else I can reach. Sometimes, my Mom or Dad will shuffle their feet, and then I chase their toes to try to catch them. That's fun! I also play with my foster brothers and sisters. I give a little bark as if to say, "Come play with me" and then they do!

I'm a smart little girl, who knows my name and will come right away when you yell, "Skipper!" I'm just learning how to walk on a leash, so I might need a little more help with that from a patient friend. Same with housetraining. But I'm pretty good, because I know that I get a treat when I go out. And I sure do like treats! I also love to chew on my rawhide chews. My 'big girl' teeth are just starting to come in, so that really helps.

Of course, eventually I do get tired of playing, and then my favorite thing to do is curl up on somebody's lap while they watch TV. And at night I sleep in my own bed, in a little crate. I'm quiet and polite, and don't make a peep all night. But can I tell you a secret? Some day when I'm all grown up, I'd love to sleep in the big bed. (Hey, a girl can dream, can't she?)

Okay, one last thing I need to tell you. I'm a happy, healthy, adorable puppy, who also happens to be blind. But my Mom says to tell you that's no problem at all. I'm so smart that I figured out where everything was in my foster home in just two days. I found my bed, water and food. And most important of all, Mom's office! She says that for such a little gal I'm very "resourceful". I'm not too sure what that means, but if you have a dictionary, you can just look it up….

Hello everybody!

My name is Nico and I’m a cute little angel of about 10 pounds. I'm simply adorable and have a nice curly, non-shedding fur and big dark eyes. Plus my Mom says I have beautiful teeth (just got 'em cleaned, in fact!). What's not to like?

Once upon a time, I had a wonderful home with a person who loved me and took care of me - and I was the happiest little guy on earth. But one sad day, my special person passed away -- and I was taken to a shelter. Being a little guy who was used to living in a loving home, I was really scared!. Luckily, the nice people at BFK came and scooped me up. You see they could see that I was a great guy who would make a wonderful companion.

Now, although I have a baby face, I’m an adult guy of about thirteen. But if you ask me, getting an adult dog as your companion can have a lot of advantages! Just take me, little Nico, as an example. My Mom says that some words to describe me would be "polite", and also "low maintenance", because I have beautiful manners. For example, I looooove to go on walks and I will stick right by Mom, on her right side, very nicely with no pulling. I am great at meeting other people and dogs, on the street or in the stores we go to, and if they give me attention, I smile and wag my tail. And even though I turn around when it’s time to go home, I’m trying to get her to walk a little bit further every day. I tell her it’s good for her – and it’s great for me. Dad says that’s called a win-win! I also love to go for rides in the car. Any time and to go any place! Sometimes I curl up and sleep the whole way, and other times, I sit on Dad’s lap and look out the window and smile.

But just because I'm gentle and polite doesn't mean I don't like to play as much as the next guy! My favorite toys are my stuffed animals. I will growl and shake them and then give them a big toss into the air…. Yippeeeeee! And sometimes I get up on the pile of plush animals and just roll around on top. It makes Mom laugh. I’m also smart as a whip. As soon as Mom and Dad showed me where the ‘potty spot’ was in the yard, I started to go right there. They said that showed how smart I am and how much I want to please. And being housebroken is a pretty good quality in a doggie companion, don’t you think?

I’m also the perfect buddy for a snuggle in front of the TV or a nap on the sofa. I’m a quiet, gentle guy who loves any chance to sit right by my people! Why I even put my little paw on my Mom’s hand, or my head on her lap, so she knows that I’m there for her (and ready to get petted at any time!) Mom says I'm sweet and lovable, and mind very nicely. I love hearing her, or anybody really, tell me that I'm a very good boy. When I hear those words, my heart just swells with pride.

Hello new friends!

My name is Ripley. And I'm a baby, really, not even one year old! If you look closely at my picture, you'll see that I look just like the other bichons, except for one thing: I have this funny little black stripe running down my nose. My foster Mom says it makes me look "unique". I'm not sure what that means, but she had a smile on her face when she said it, so I guess it's good.

Basically, I am just a little happy puppy who loves to play and run and cuddle. I like to walk a lot, and I'm working on being housebroken, and doing pretty good as long as you take me out regularly. I get along great with my doggie foster brothers and sisters. They're the best! We run and play, and when we're all tired out at the end of the day, we all crawl onto the big bed and go to sleep in a big pile. It's great!

Mom says I am very smart and easy to get along with -- and that I listen really well. I always come when I am called. I do need things to chew on, because, hey, I'm a puppy! But I know that it's okay to only chew on my special bones, so that's what I do. I have been known to steal my Mom's slippers, because they're one of my favorite toys. She wants you to know that I just play with them, then give them back. Mom says that shows how smart I am! Bones are for chewing, and slippers are for playing....

Once the playing is done, though, I love to be on the couch or the bed with my people, just snuggling and snoozing. Not to brag, but can I just tell you one other thing that my Mom says? Ridiculously Cute Ripley  

Hi everyone!

My name is Woody, but everybody calls me Woody Bear. Even though I don't look like a bear at all! I'm a little guy of about six or seven, who only weighs six pounds. Does that sound like a bear to you?

I should mention that I do look a little different from your average Bichon. For one thing, when I came to Bichon Furkids, my fur was really matted, and they had to shave it off. So now I just have a white silky short coat. But in no time at all, I'll be back to my original cotton-ball self. Also, I don't have a regular tail, just a little "stub." But my friends at BFK think that gives me "character". Doesn't that sound good?

I've only been in my foster home a few days, but my Mom says I am "very cooperative." I'm not sure what that means, but I'm trying hard to be a good boy. I'm almost completely housebroken, for one thing and I never chew stuff up. I have a tennis ball, and that's my favorite toy, and I know that toys are for chewing and people stuff belongs to my people. And guess what? My foster Mom and Dad took me to the pet store and let me walk all around on a leash! That was so much fun! I get along fine with other dogs, too.

Now, I had kind of a scary time before I came to Bichon Furkids. So I'm still a little scared of things. For example, when they took me for a ride in the car, I really, really wanted to go, but then I was trembling the whole time, and my foster Mom felt really sorry for me. And sometimes I get startled if somebody reaches to pick me up and I'm not expecting it. So I need to be in a home with people who understand that I'm a shy little guy, and will need somebody to help me get used to the world. But I'm getting more and more confident every day!

When it's bedtime, I will sleep anywhere: on my dog bed, in an ex-pen. But my favorite place of all to sleep is my foster Dad's lap. It's just such a great place to curl up and let all my worries fall away. If I had to pick one thing in the whole world that is my very, very favoritest, I would say "somebody's lap."

FurKids in Northern California & Arizona

Greetings new friends!

My name is Harley and I'm a little bichon boy of two. I am being fostered in Sacramento and love it here!

Once upon a time, I belonged to a little lady who was not able to properly care for me. She couldn’t take me for walks or runs – and I never got to see or play with other FurKids either. Sadly I actually lived in her garage (which is no place for a cuddlebug like me! So some friends called the nice people at Bichon FurKids, and they came and rescued me. Now I have people and lots of other FurKids around, and I'm as happy as could be.

And I’ve discovered that I love to play. I chase my doggy brothers and sister around and around -- and we have lots of fun. Or I bring my special red toy to Mom or Dad so they can throw it for me, and I fetch it and bring it right back. (Dad says I’m really smart ‘cause he doesn’t have to go and get it for me!) Or we play tug-o-war with my toy. It's so much fun! Every once in a while, I also try to play with the cats. I try to chase them ‘cause that’s what the FurKids like -- but they don't like that very much. So Mom just tells me to go and find my bichon brothers as they will always play with me!

Mom says to tell you that I can jump like a gazelle - and that I would be perfect for agility competition. I tell her that I’m making up for lost time – just enjoying the freedom to be active and be a young bichon. Not to brag, but you should see me do the Bichon buzz. I can really move – and Mom says I do the Buzz with a great big happy smile on my face.

I'm learning so many things in my new house. Dad says that I learn easily and am eager to please. I love walks and am getting really good at staying by his side. I've also learned to sit nicely and wait for my treats. (They are so tasty. You should try them!) And I really like to be groomed, and know how to behave so that they can make me super handsome. My bad haircut is growing out and soon I will look like the handsome bichon I was meant to be (and not how that silly groomer groomed me to look either!)

Mom says I'm getting very good at being in my crate. She is teaching me all kinds of manners – like how to sit quietly while she gets my dinner. (Which is kinda hard, because I sure love dinner.) But I'm trying to learn everything, because I want my people to be proud of me. Just recently, my family has been letting me sleep on my human sister's bed at night. Wowee – do I love that. The big bed and a warm body! That’s a huge and wonderful change from being in a cold crate in the garage!

Mom says the other thing you should know about me is that I am a love bug! I will lay my head on your chest or against your neck and just stay there, content to be cuddled. She says I’m working on an ‘A’ in affection, too.

Hi People!

I'm Wesley, a little pup of only about one being fostered in Northern California. Although I weigh only 10 pounds I'm here to prove that good things come in small packages.

My foster Mom describes me as "a snugglebug," which is kind of funny ‘cause I'm not a bug at all! I'm a bichon! But she said it means that I want to be in close contact with my people all the time. Well, okay then, that's true, so I guess it's okay to call me that.

The greatest thing about being a puppy is that you get to play! All the time! It's terrific fun! I have this long, green, stuffed fuzzy toy and it is my favoritest toy ever! Dad says I love to shake it – oh, and to carry it around with me, too. My second favorite ‘toy’ are my doggy foster brothers and sisters. They love to chase me and wrestle around on the floor with me. We just have the bestest time!

Now, because I'm such a young guy, I'm still learning how to do some things, like settling down in my crate. And learning to be housetrained. (I did figure out the doggie door right away, though, so I'm doing pretty good already.)

Hello new friends!

My name is Ricky and I’m a cute Bichon boy of about one who weighs about 8 or 9 lbs being fostered in Northern California. That makes me a little ball of fluff – but I’m a fluff who’s also a lot of fun to have around!

My Mom says to tell you that I'm a confident and friendly guy who feels comfortable in new situations. She says I have wonderful manners and I'm nice to everybody I meet Why I'm even nice to cats! And Mom says I can be taken anywhere…. So please do! Take me everywhere! I'd love to see the Grand Canyon some day, you know, and lots of other places near and far, too!

Dad says that, like other guys my age, I really like to play. This is how you do it. Ready? First take alllllllll the toys out of the toy box, one by one. Second you spread them all over the place. Third pick up one special toy --and chew the heck out of it! After you're done, get Mom or Dad to throw a ball (or a toy, or anything) so you can go get it. Then chase your foster brothers and sisters all over the place and wrestle with them on the floor. Wheeeeeeeee! Where was I?

Well, there are other neat things that I know how to do: I ride quietly in the car in my crate. I know how to use the doggie door. (Are you impressed yet?) I walk nicely, and Mom says I have a very pretty "prance" that I do when I’m walking. Oh, and I figured out how to open the X-pen in the hallway with just my nose..... (Mom says that shows that I'm really smart!) Oh and I learned to shake my paw in just minutes!

But best of all I love to nap. And at night Mom and Dad let me sleep on the big bed them. Wowee! is that ever great!, I can curl myself into the tiniest little ball of fur, no bigger than a mitten. Mom says it makes her heart melt every time.

As good as I am with people, other dogs and cats, I am best in a home without young children (I'm too teeny for small kids to handle safely; they think I’m a toy and that’s not good for me.) So if I sound like your kind of fluff, please write and ask for me by name – I’m Ricky!

Rollicking, Frolicking Ricky

Hi everybody.

I'm Ringo, and I'm a cute little Bichon boy of two. You can see from my picture that I have beautiful white hair and black button eyes. I'm here looking for a BFF to love forever! My Mom says that should be easy ‘cause I am so sweet and "social." I guess you could say that I have never met a stranger.

I'm the kind of little guy who just loves life! For instance, I love to go for rides in the car. When I see Mom getting ready I get really excited. I run right over to the car and jump into my doggy car seat, right next to my foster sister. Then we get to go for a ride! I also like to run and play in the backyard. When I want to let Mom and Dad know it's time to play, I do a ‘play bow’ with my feet on the floor and my (ahem) fanny in the air. Then I kind of hop around in this funny way that makes them laugh every time.

Mom says I'm smart, too. I’ve learned a lot of things here pretty fast - like where to go potty. (That makes Mom and Dad very happy!) And I know how to "sit" and "shake" and lots of other stuff. If I don't know what a word is, I watch Mom's 'body language' to figure out what she wants me to do. And then I do it!

I just love hanging around with people. I like to follow Mom from room to room, and sit down with her so that some part of my body is touching Mom. She says I’m always affectionate, never intrusive and a real lovebug.

At bed time I get into my little bed, which is right next to the big bed. Then Mom covers me up with a blanket and I go right to sleep. But you know what the best part is? When we wake up in the morning, I'm allowed to go in the big bed for my "morning cuddles". So I get up there and wriggle all over, snorting and bumping to get more pets. That's my most favoritest thing of all!

Dad says to tell you that I would make a "wonderful addition to anyone's home." So if your home has a space in it that's just waiting for a wonderful Bichon to add, please write and ask for me, Ringo.

Hey there, everyone!

I'm Stevie and I'm a happy and very friendly little Bichon boy of two who weighs about 15 pounds. My Mom calls me a "short stack" because, you know… I'm not very tall. But she says I have a huge, loving heart and that’s what counts the most.

I'm a playful guy who loves to do funny things. For example, sometimes when I'm all full of happiness, I chase my tail. Mom says it makes her laugh, because at first I look like I'm trying not to chase it, but then I give in to "temptation." I also love to play with my baby blanket. I shake it and it makes this funny noise, like "crinkle, crinkle, crinkle." I also love when somebody throws a ball – so I can get to fetch it. That's fun for my people, and super fun for me!

My doggy foster brothers and sisters are pretty fun too. We play chase, and lots of other exciting games. After all that playing, I'm pretty tired so I just lie down on the floor and konk out. That makes Mom and Dad laugh. Other times I'll go into my crate for a ‘beauty nap’. (I know what you’re thinking but guys need time for beauty naps too!)

Sometimes Mom takes me for a ride in the car. And car rides are one of my favorite times. I get to watch everybody go by, see where they're going and what they're doing. And that’s super great because I really like people a lot! Big people, little people … whoever happens to be around. And if they have a lap for me, that's even better! I guess you could say being on somebody's lap is my special hobby!

Dad says I'm smart, too! I'm completely housebroken, and I know a lot of commands, like "sit" and “stay.” Mom says it's pretty funny because if she tells me to sit while I'm playing, I kind of stop and look at her for a minute, like I'm pondering whether I should sit or not. But I always do because I love to please! And Dad says my facial expressions are very amusing.

Basically I'm the kind of boy who just wants to enjoy life, play hard then snuggle away the hours in somebody's lap. Mom says there aren't enough words to describe how "super lovable" I am. (Can you tell she kinda likes me?) So if I sound like a good match for you and your family, please fill out an application and ask for Little Stevie. Hello, everybody!

My name is Armani. Wow, that's kind of a fancy name for a tiny little guy. I'm only about a year old, and I weigh just 7 pounds! But I'm going to try hard to live up to my big name.

Basically, I'm what you might call a "social butterfly". (Now, don't get confused, I'm really a dog. It's just something people say when a guy is really friendly to everybody.) And I am! I'd rather play with other doggies than with my toys. I have a little stuffed frog, and I like it fine, but it's not as much fun as having a real play buddy. One of my very favorite things to do is to go out to the dog park and meet new friends. Whether they have two legs or four legs, it doesn't matter to me! I play nicely with the other dogs, and let the people pet me and pick me up, like I've known them forever.

My Mom likes to brag that I'm very smart and 'inquisitive', and that I learned the rules of the house right away. Since I like to go places, I'm very good about riding in the car. Mom puts me in the crate, and I just ride along quietly, with no whining at all. I'm also pretty good about my house-training, and know how to use the doggie door, or a potty pad. Even though I'm young and playful, my Mom says I don't act "puppyish". Maybe that's how I got such an adult name? Anyway, because I'm so well behaved, they let me sleep in the big bed at my house. It's pretty great!

Mom also calls me "an all around cute guy," which makes me smile from ear to ear. And it must be kind of true, I guess, because strangers see me and want to pick me up all the time. Well, that's okay by me! I really love to be cuddled. But I'm a teeny weeny guy, so I need to be in a home without really young kids who could accidentally hurt me.

Hello World,

My name is Boomer and I'm a charming little senior Bichon being fostered in Arizona. My foster mom says I'm a sweetheart, have a gentle personality and am a major snuggler. My foster Dad says I'm spunky, love my walks and rides- and am incredibly smart!

A few years ago, when I was just a little tyke, my brother and I were adopted by a family. They loved, adored and spoiled us and we had a wonderful life. Then one day they told me they had to move and they could not take us with them. They found a home for my brother but not for me – and I found myself alone, scared and afraid. I got lucky, though, and the nice people at Bichon FurKids found me. They saw my handsome face, my loving heart and knew that there would be another family or person with whom I could share my life. They told me they would tell my story – and here I am!

Mom says I'm a very good boy who is just a joy to have around. I'm housebroken (and even use the doggie door!) affectionate and eager to please. Dad says I want nothing more than to please my people. I enjoy roaming and romping around in the yard, especially with my stuffed tiger. Boy is he fun! At night, I love to snuggle in the big bed with my people, and even plop down on the bed when I'm tired and ready to sleep. Dad says I'm just a wonderful, easy going, yet curious little guy who is a testament to being a bichon. (I don’t exactly know what that means but Dad says that’s a good thing… so I know it is!)

Mom says that while I get along with other dogs, I am better suited to a quiet environment where I can be the only child (and soak up all the affection and attention!) I think that sounds just dandy and would really love a family of my own once again! (Mom says that my forever family will be showered endlessly with love from a very handsome and happy bichon boy!)

A Bit About Bichons

Bichons and Bichon mixes need to be groomed regularly. When not tended to, their hair (not fur) tends to grow very long and then mat if not brushed or combed. The kindest thing we can do, when we take in a dog in this condition, is to shave it down.

In a matter of weeks, beautiful, white, healthy hair will grow. So, if you see a dog that's available and it's a little short on hair... know that it will be a beautiful white, fluffy, haired darling within a few weeks. Read Ace's story by clicking on this photo.

Every week a number of fur kids become part of Bichon Fur Kids. They are in foster care - and not yet listed on our web site. While they are part of these very giving foster families, the new fur kids are receiving lots of love, learning how to walk on leashes, ride in cars, frolic in the grass - and experiencing being around children, other dogs and sometimes cats! Our goal is for them to become the very best dogs that they can be - and to find their Forever Homes as soon as they are ready.

We add new FurKids to our family each week - so please check back often.

Read the February ~ March issue!

The newest issue of our BFK newsletter has just been posted, complete with timely articles. Read about Chopstix, Tiger and Jordy, see new photos of a very handsome Dempsey and a very handsome Jack, learn about tear staining in bichons, review a new recipe from the Chef and discover the details about our very own 8th Annual Southern California Bichon Bash.  

We are so grateful that there are so many wonderful people, like you, who love bichons as we do. When I started BFK I thought I might see one bichon needing to be rescued each week. Not in my wildest dreams did I think there would be so many ‘out there,’ And to our amazement (we knew we were busy but…) we ended 2009 having rescued and rehomed 454 FurKids!  

And our work is not done yet! Each day we hear about more – like little Ripley who needed eye surgery in order to see (and live a normal life) and Spirit (well named because she survived being hit by a car, losing a leg but not her life) and Georgie Girl, another little one who also runs like the wind on three legs! And then there are our senior bichons – Picasso, Jimmy and the recently rescued Tuli and Tanze (their male owner died and his wife decided to travel the world – so the first stop for these darling little sisters was the local shelter.)  

Shortly after starting BFK, a wonderful group of ladies joined and become the Board. We made a decision not to rescue only the young, healthy and easily adoptable bichons – but to help those in need: bichons whose families ‘somehow’ lost or left them and who wandered the streets as strays; bichons whose families could not keep them, bichons whose illnesses or injuries required special care and treatment – and the older bichons for whom life in the shelter represented certain death. In addition we recently launched our Forever Foster program to help some ‘very special needs’ bichons.  

It is now the start of our fifth year – and we need your help. All of us are unpaid volunteers yet, because of the number of sick and ailing FurKids we rescued, we are facing a very challenging time financially. If your life has been touched by a bichon, if you want to support what we do, now is the time to make a difference. Whatever you can contribute will help some FurKid in some way! If each of you could give $20 or $25 that would make a huge impact.

We welcome your comments, encourage you to submit your 'rescue' stories, send photos and updates on your FurKids. That's what fuels us and keeps us going! And if you have the time to volunteer, we can certainly use your help. There are lots of ‘jobs’ that need doing – from making blankets (good projects for kids and grandkids) to doing pre-adoption home safety checks and, of course, fostering FurKids – as we can only save as many as we have foster homes to place them in.

Foster Homes Needed!

As we head into the holidays, more and more fur kids are entering rescue.

Come hear world-renowned pet vaccination experts Drs. W. Jean Dodds and Ronaold D. Schultz speak about vaccination protocols and managing and treating adverse vaccine reactions. They will also address titer testing, blood tests for wellness, homeopathy to make vaccinating safer and more. Both speakers will answer questions at a roundtable Q&Q session. About the Bash

Bichon FurKids Rescue (BFK), a charitable not-for-profit animal rescue organization, is dedicated to rescuing, restoring and re-homing Bichons, Bichon mixes and other small breeds. In 2009, BFK rescued and placed nearly over 450 FurKids in loving and responsible forever homes. Medical attention, spaying/neutering and grooming were provided for each FurKid one prior to adoption.

The annual "Bichon Bash" is the primary fundraising event to support our rescue efforts. As those of you who have attended previously know, this is a truly special event. Please join us this year for our Parade of Rescues, Recognition of our Volunteers, Pet Adoptions, the Vendor Faire, dog contests, lots of food, drinks and camaraderie. Last year over 200 people attended the event with about 150 of their FurKids.

It is a great day for those of us who love bichons - and we hope to see you there!

Returning vendors who participated at the 2009 Bichon Bash will be given priority locations.
Table Exhibits will be open for viewing by all paid attendees on Saturday, May 15th, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm.
Tables must be manned by your company's representatives during event hours.
Your exhibit is limited to one table. You may provide a table of equivalent size if you prefer, however we request that you let us know in advance. Hanging banners must be approved and loudspeaker systems are not permitted.
You may provide your own table cover with your company name.
Exhibitors will have access to the exhibit area beginning at 8:00 am on Saturday, May 15, to set up tables. Tables must be completely set up and ready for the event by 9:30 am. Exhibitors are required to stay until 3:00 pm, when the event ends and not begin packing before that time.
Exhibitors are responsible for all shipping, packaging, and packing of their products and equipment. Neither Bichon FurKids Rescue nor The City of Irvine and Irvine Animal Care Center can accept responsibility for damages that may occur to your products and equipment.
Parking adjacent to the rear gate of the park will be available to vendors for loading and unloading only. Please arrive early so you can be set up and ready to go when the festivities begin at 10:00 a.m.

It is our goal to feature unique, one-of-a-kind products and services our participants will want to see. We try to avoid vendors competing with one another.

We need your help!

As the date for the 8th Annual Southern California Bichon Bash rapidly approaches, we are looking for volunteers to support the event. We will have Doggie Product Vendors, Product Demonstrations, Contests, Games, Raffle, and more! Of course, for all these activities, lots of volunteers are needed.

Please consider volunteering for the event committee or to help with this year’s event. Volunteer job descriptions are listed below.

Volunteer Job Descriptions

SETUP: Setting up for event, including distributing tables and chairs, setting up Exhibit Tables, posting signs, moving boxes of materials for sale and setting up BFK sales booth, whatever is needed to get the ready for the “Bash”. Critical job! Requires about 15 volunteers to work from 7:00 A.M until 10:00 a.m . Good job for early birds in good shape.

ADMISSION/PARKING: We need individuals to greet guests, verify registration and handle on site donations, and distribute wristbands. Requires at least 4 volunteers per hour from 9:30 to 2:30. We also need assistance monitoring the parking lot and traffic. Requires 2 volunteers per hour from 9:30 to 1:00.

ACTIVITY AIDES: GATE/ Assist with handing out programs, selling raffle tickets, registering contest participants. Requires 4 volunteers per hour from 10:00 to 12:00

HOSPITALITY AIDES: If lunch is served, assistance will be needed to set up, keep food and drink organized and food area clear. Requires 2 to 4 volunteers from 11:00 to 1:00.

FOOD SALES: We hope to have popcorn, snow cones, etc. for sale and will need assistance with sales. Requires at least 4 volunteers per hour from 10:00 to 2:30.

SALES: Those who like to sell have lots of opportunities in the Bichon FurKid sales booth. We’ll also be selling raffle tickets and possibly food tickets. Requires 4 volunteers per hour from 10:00 to 2:00.

RUNNERS: This is a vital position. The “runners” pinch hit when and wherever there is a need – substituting for other volunteers during breaks, filling in when no volunteer is available, and assisting the event committee with various special needs. Flexibility is key. Requires 2 volunteers per hour from 10:00 to 2:00.

CLEANUP: This involves dismantling and collecting tables, chairs, cleaning up the grounds and putting away equipment, supplies, etc. After a long day, it’s very hard to muster the effort to help clean up from the day’s event. The more help we have, the easier the job is for everyone! If you can stay after 3:00 p.m or if you are signing up for an afternoon shift, please consider staying to help.

PHOTOGRAPHY: It would be really great to have a photographic record of this year’s event. All are encouraged to submit their photos for viewing on our website. Last year's photo record was outstanding.

Our Special Angels

Each month a very special little angel comes into rescue – a little bichon whose needs are greater than the others. For most of them to be ‘whole’ requires a major surgery. Each of these little angels has a special story to tell and is an inspiration for those of us that rescue and love them.

Please read the stories below to learn about the latest in our group of special angels.

You can contribute to their well being, sponsor a special angel or help us to foster him or her when it is time to leave the hospital. Whatever you do helps these fur kids, and the ones that follow, to live healthier and better lives, will be rewarding to them and to you – and we thank you for your support.
