Available Dogs

Here are furkids currently in foster care and ready to meet Forever Families. Since all of our pups are in loving foster homes, as we get to know their personalities and needs, we can then write their bios. If you do not see a story for a particular dog, that means he or she has just recently become a furkid. When we know more about those furkids, we will write their bios.

Since our foster moms and dads have the 'first right of adoption' many times they decide to adopt the furkid they are fostering. If you are interested in fostering (so that you have the right of first adoption), please email .

Please also remember that with bichons, it is about chemistry, more than gender! More males are born, therefore, more come in to rescue. There are probably as many dominant females as there are submissive males. Most males are not leg lifters (many still squat like females) and belly bands take care of that challenge quickly and easily. The bigger challenge we have is that many bichons need another bichon or other dog, as well as human companions. Most of our furkids cannot be 'only children.' When you read the bios you will see which dogs can live with only human companions. With bichons it is all about chemistry - chemistry with you, with other dogs and other breeds!

Please check back for new bios, photos and furkid information! We update the web site several times each week.

We are Louie and Stevie, a bonded pair of pups. We are the best of friends and care deeply about each other. Mom says that I, Stevie, am friendly to everyone, love to give kisses and am a real snuggle bug. (Mom says that is very endearing.) She says I also love to dance on my hind legs and snuggle in her lap. I love to be petted, listen really well, am housebroken and SMART. She says I could be called Lover Boy ‘cause when I see people I want to follow them and give them all the love in the world. Read more »

Each week BFK takes in dogs that need extra medical care or who, without surgery, would be put to sleep. These pups are in loving foster homes where they are recovering. If you care to support us with a one-time donation or would like to sponsor a pup during its recovery, know that your contribution will help these little ones to once again be whole.

Theo

‚ÄčThis is Theo, a little one year old cockachon whose paw has been injured in a way that is unbelievable. Apparently his former owners tied a rubber band around his front paw - then forgot about it. At some point they then dumped him at the shelter. The rubber band was so embedded in his skin that the shelter anesthetized him to remove it. They put a splint on his paw, contemplated amputating it - then listed him as rescue only.

We went to the shelter today and rescued Theo. Due to the severity of the pain he was in and the fears we had about his paw, Theo went to the Southern California Veterinary Hospital on emergency. There, Dr. Chiang found that the blood supply to Theo's paw was cut off, there was dead skin all around ‚Äčthe paw, a gaping hole in the bottom of his foot and he was running a temperature.

Theo was started on anti-bioitcs, IV fluids, pain medication and had his skin cleaned and a new bandage applied. Despite the pain and soreness, Theo was a trooper and extremely sweet and gentle.

On Monday, we will transfer Theo to Stonecreek Animal Hospital where he will receive bandage changes and we will look at what needs to be done to remove the dead and dying skin. We are working hard to save his paw and will update the web site and Facebook with his progress.

Update 03/22/15

Theo has just been groomed for the first time since his rescue and now he's on his way to getting a bandage changed at Stonecreek. Many thanks to Dr. Glass and his team for saving Theo's paw and to the outstanding care from foster mom, Elizabeth, and her family and furkids!
