Available Dogs

Here are furkids currently in foster care and ready to meet Forever Families. Since all of our pups are in loving foster homes, as we get to know their personalities and needs, we can then write their bios. If you do not see a story for a particular dog, that means he or she has just recently become a furkid. When we know more about those furkids, we will write their bios.

Since our foster moms and dads have the 'first right of adoption' many times they decide to adopt the furkid they are fostering. If you are interested in fostering (so that you have the right of first adoption), please email .

Please also remember that with bichons, it is about chemistry, more than gender! More males are born, therefore, more come in to rescue. There are probably as many dominant females as there are submissive males. Most males are not leg lifters (many still squat like females) and belly bands take care of that challenge quickly and easily. The bigger challenge we have is that many bichons need another bichon or other dog, as well as human companions. Most of our furkids cannot be 'only children.' When you read the bios you will see which dogs can live with only human companions. With bichons it is all about chemistry - chemistry with you, with other dogs and other breeds!

Please check back for new bios, photos and furkid information! We update the web site several times each week.

Paddington Paddington
Male - Young

My name is Paddington, but you can call me Paddy- and I’m a handsome little Bichon of about three or four. Like the famous bear for whom I’m named, I’m a very friendly guy (but definitely a bichon and not a bear!) I love dogs, kids, adults, walks, rides. I love ear scratches and head rubs and belly rubs – and I’m just about the most perfect companion in the world! Read more »

Jamie Jordy Jamie & Jordy
Young Males

We are Jamie and Jordy, two 18 month old bichon pups. Our foster parents said to tell you that I, Jordy, am a bundle of love and energy and that Jamie is an adorable little cuddler of a guy. We weigh about 15 and 9 pounds now and are fully grown - and together are a very engaging, dynamic duo. Read more »

Gatsby Gatsby
Male - Young

My name is Gatsby and I’m an adorable Havanese mix of about two. Mom says I am very friendly, sweet, well-behaved, cuddly and just plain gorgeous guy! (She says that’s a wonderful combination.)

According to Mom, that makes me DELICIOUS! Maybe it’s my white eyebrows, or the way that I look at her – or perhaps it’s the smile in my eyes, when I show appreciation. Read more »

Teddy Teddy
Male - Young

My name is Teddy and I’m an adorable little guy of two who is handsome, peppy, affectionate, cheerful and active. (That’s according to my foster Mom because I would never brag!) I’m a little guy (weighing all of 8.5 pounds) with expressive eyes and lots of love to give. I’m also very affectionate! Read more »

Lani Lani
Female- Adult

My name is Lovable Lani – and you probably remember me from Facebook. I’m a calm, sweet, grateful and affectionate Bichon girl of a certain age, (about 10 or 11 years young, that is.) who was brought to the shelter by my family – and then left there. I knew that wasn’t the place for me so I howled and howled – and got the attention of lots of good people who knew I needed to ‘get out of Dodge’ (I mean the shelter!) Read more »

Scamp Scamp
Male - Young

My name is Scamp and I’m a cuddly and affectionate five year old Bichon who weighs only 12 pounds and looks like a little lamb. When you meet me you will have no doubt that I am a Super Cute Adorably Magnificent Pup (that's what my foster Mom says Scamp means!) And she says she isn’t biased, either! Read more »

Timmy Timmy
Male - Young

My name is Timmy and I’ve just become a FurKid. You may have read about me on Facebook as I’ve already got a bunch of fans. It must be my cute little smile or the fact that I’m so lovable. Read more »

Lucy Lucy
Female - Young

My name is Lucy and I’m a pretty girl who is finally getting to be a young pup at last. My foster Mom says I’m housebroken (she appreciates that!) lovable and that I thrive on attention. When you read my story you will understand why.

You see, I was only a little over a year old when I was attacked by a bigger dog - and taken to a place called a shelter. Read more »

Robbie Robbie
Male - Young

I’m Robbie-- and I’m a handsome and cuddly bichon boy of about two who is as sweet as can be, has big black eyes and a very happy smile. (Just imagine what I will look like when my hair grows back. Mom says I’ll be a knockout.) I’m a little munchkin who weighs not quite 9 pounds and am cute, cuddly, loving, funny and playful. Read more »

Reggie Reggie
Male - Young

My name is Reggie and I’m a friendly, active and fun-loving guy of about 1 and a half. Mom says I’m the bounciest and silliest pup she has ever known. I’m good with other dogs and even the cat. My aunties say that I have a handsome face, expressive eyes, and that I am an adorable work-in-progress. (Can you tell they really like me?) Read more »

Dewey Dewey
Male - Adult

I’m Dewey and I’m an adaptable, adorable and good natured little guy, about six years old and weighing only 12 pounds. I am a very gentle and loving little bichon with a sweet personality and a happy smile, I’m certainly a grateful little guy, too, ‘cause I’m a furkid!

Dad says I’m a friendly little guy who gets along with everyone – and I get lots of practice. I also have a doggy foster brother and sister who are good teachers. They are showing me how to do all kinds of things including this thing called 'play!' And we have toys! Read more »

Buddy Buddy
Male - Young

My name is Buddy- and my Mom says I’m a delightful and very happy bichon boy about five or six. Buddy is a great name for me because that is just what I am and what I am good at. I am the best buddy you could ask for. I am happy, sweet and especially talented at charming my way onto your lap. Dad says I just focus my big brown eyes on you and presto! There I am. Read more »

Domino Domino
Male - Adult

My name is Domino and I’m a sweet and gentle lovebug. I am 15 pounds of happiness and sweetness – and a very special little guy too! You see I was born with unformed eyes – but that never kept me from being normal. I ran, played, loved and tumbled with my family. Then one day my family took me to the shelter … and left me! You see my spirit was still loving and giving – but they no longer had time for me. Read more »

Each week BFK takes in dogs that need extra medical care or who, without surgery, would be put to sleep. These pups are in loving foster homes where they are recovering. If you care to support us with a one-time donation or would like to sponsor a pup during its recovery, know that your contribution will help these little ones to once again be whole.

My name is Cricket and I'm a little guy who has survived a lot already - and has a bit of a journey yet to go!

Everyone who meets me (including all the nice vets that I am getting to know) comments about how I exude sweetness. Aw, gee- what's a guy to do?

The next step of my journey includes getting my leg amputated (I'm not using it now so it's kind of going to be a relief to get it taken off. It's my back leg so it's not going to be as challenging as if it were a front leg.) I also have to get a dental, some bumps removed from my head and eyelid and a few other things (like removing a bunch of foxtails that seem to like me a lot!)

Regardless of all that I've been through and all that lies ahead, I'm an amazingly happy and resilient 12 pound boy who is looking for love in all the right places.

Please think about how much I've been through and help me on the next leg of my journey (well, maybe I should say leg-less but you know what I mean.)

Cuddly and Courageous Cricket
