Available Dogs

Here are furkids currently in foster care and ready to meet Forever Families. Since all of our pups are in loving foster homes, as we get to know their personalities and needs, we can then write their bios. If you do not see a story for a particular dog, that means he or she has just recently become a furkid. When we know more about those furkids, we will write their bios.

Since our foster moms and dads have the 'first right of adoption' many times they decide to adopt the furkid they are fostering. If you are interested in fostering (so that you have the right of first adoption), please email .

Please also remember that with bichons, it is about chemistry, more than gender! More males are born, therefore, more come in to rescue. There are probably as many dominant females as there are submissive males. Most males are not leg lifters (many still squat like females) and belly bands take care of that challenge quickly and easily. The bigger challenge we have is that many bichons need another bichon or other dog, as well as human companions. Most of our furkids cannot be 'only children.' When you read the bios you will see which dogs can live with only human companions. With bichons it is all about chemistry - chemistry with you, with other dogs and other breeds!

Please check back for new bios, photos and furkid information! We update the web site several times each week.

Puppies Available in San Diego

Hello Everyone!

Everyone loves a bichon puppy! And that includes us! We happen to have a six-pack of adorable puppies about 8 weeks old - and one little guy who is going on four weeks old!

We know that we will find great forever families for all of these furkids. Because "puppy hood" is such a critical period in a dog's development, we have stricter criteria for adopting a puppy. You see, we want them to have the best chance to grow into happy, healthy, well-socialized and well-behaved pets! For these reasons, we require that our puppies are with their forever families throughout the day and night - and that they not be separated from human contact for more than two hours a day.

It is also our desire to adopt each puppy to a family who has another furkid, so that the pup can learn from the more-experienced dog’s knowledge of good manners and skills. We also understand puppy energy - and the fact that they go non-stop for a while, sleep to recharge their batteries, then start all over again. That kind of energy is not fair to an older dog who, while still enjoying life and having energy, generally does not like to have to deal with the frenetic puppy energy that these little ones have. We consider both the existing dog and the puppy very seriously when making placement recommendations and decisions.

So, if this sounds like you and your family, please complete an application at www.bichonfurkids.org/Applications! The puppies are ready to begin meeting their forever families.

Healing FurKids

Each week BFK takes in dogs that need extra medical care or who, without surgery, would be put to sleep. These pups are in loving foster homes where they are recovering. If you care to support us with a one-time donation or would like to sponsor a pup during its recovery, know that your contribution will help these little ones to once again be whole. Hello World,

You might not know it by looking at me but I am a warrior. You see I was attacked by a coyote and I escaped.

My foster mom says, "Kyra does really well on the leash now; it's a pleasure to walk her. She continues to amaze me with her intelligence, obedience and sense of humor. While I work, she plays with her toys or rolls around on the coach, eventually laying down on her blanket for a nap. She especially likes to ride in the car; she stands on the armrest to look out the window. Although she has only been able to meet a few visitors, she is very sociable and curious. Everyone agrees that she is a sweetheart.

Kyra wanted to show off her halloween bandana and to let everyone know that she wants to be a witch this year."

Kyra, the warrior princess

Hi People,

My name is Scamp and I'm a two year old bichon weighing only 12 pounds. I'm a happy little guy, despite having been 'intercepted' by a car. (My aunties say that's a nice way of saying I was hit by a car.)

My foster mom says, "Sweet little Scamp loves people and dogs. He desperately wants to please and is working on potty training. Something tells me I won't have him for long."

Please check back to see how I'm doing.

Thanks,

Scamp
