Available Dogs

Here are furkids currently in foster care and ready to meet Forever Families. Since all of our pups are in loving foster homes, as we get to know their personalities and needs, we can then write their bios. If you do not see a story for a particular dog, that means he or she has just recently become a furkid. When we know more about those furkids, we will write their bios.

Since our foster moms and dads have the 'first right of adoption' many times they decide to adopt the furkid they are fostering. If you are interested in fostering (so that you have the right of first adoption), please email .

Please also remember that with bichons, it is about chemistry, more than gender! More males are born, therefore, more come in to rescue. There are probably as many dominant females as there are submissive males. Most males are not leg lifters (many still squat like females) and belly bands take care of that challenge quickly and easily. The bigger challenge we have is that many bichons need another bichon or other dog, as well as human companions. Most of our furkids cannot be 'only children.' When you read the bios you will see which dogs can live with only human companions. With bichons it is all about chemistry - chemistry with you, with other dogs and other breeds!

Please check back for new bios, photos and furkid information! We update the web site several times each week.

Joey Joey
Male - Puppy

My name is Joey and I’m a happy, sweet, funny and sometimes silly little puppy who is 5 months old and as cute as they come. I have a playful personality, my tail wags a lot and I’m about as full of love, and life, as any little guy can be. Oh and did I tell you I like to snuggle about as much as I like to play? And give kisses? Well, I do! Read more »

Sammy Sammy
Male - Puppy

My name is Sammy and I’ve just become a FurKid. My Aunties say that I’m 10 pounds of loving and sweetness - and nine months young! I have beautiful caramel colored hair and huge brown eyes. Wherever I go people stop to ask about me – and tell me that I’m stunning. My foster Mom says that’s true plus I’m a happy, friendly, inquisitive and out- going little guy. Read more »

Morgan Megan Morgan & Megan
Bonded Mother and Daughter - Young

We are Morgan and Megan, a darling pair of little bichons who are a bonded pair. I’m Morgan, and I’m the Mom, although I was only a little more than a puppy when Megan was born. I’m all of nine pounds and about three years old – and I’m an affectionate little girl who likes to be held, talked to and get belly rubs. Although I’m a bit shy at first, I truly love people. My foster Mom says I greet them with a tail way and a smile Read more »

Sampson Charlotte Sampson & Charlotte
Senior Brother & Sister

We are Sampson and Charlotte, a bonded pair of seniors who are happy, sweet and loving. I’m Sampson and I’m the man of the house. My foster mom says I’m sweet and very affectionate – a snuggler and a lover who loves to sing when I’m happy. Yes, I truly sing and enjoy doing duets, too! (So if you want to sing along, I’m your guy!) Read more »

Gypsy Gypsy
Female - Puppy

My name is Gypsy and Mom says that I am a sweet, adorable and happy little bichon mix! I’m eight weeks old, have a mostly white coat, with a black spot on my back and a black ‘patch’ on one of my big brown eyes - and I’m a little roly poly girl. (That’s because life is good!) Read more »

Gibson Gibson
Male - Puppy

My name is Gibson – and I’m a darling little bichon mix of eight weeks. I have a white coat, little black nose and I’m a roly-poly little guy (littler than my sister, Gypsy, that is!)

Right now I’m learning to walk. Someday soon I will learn to play. I’ve already mastered eating and sleeping - and do that very well. Now it’s time for me to learn how to do lots of other things! Read more »

Robbie Robbie
Male - Adult

My name is Robbie and I’m a delightful, cuddly and well-behaved bichon boy of six who was blessed with a happy smile and some crazy teeth. Mom says that when I smile I’m absolutely adorable – and that I’m a real lover boy. Dad says I’m happiest when I’m curled up in the crook of his or Mom’s arm. There is no doubt that being with my humans is the most important thing in the world to me. Read more »

Davey Davey
Male - Adult

I’m Davey, a delightful and playful little guy of about six. Mom says I’m a lover and a cuddler who is good with other dogs and people. I’m also great in the car, good on a walk, housebroken (that is not a typo!) and an all- around social butterfly. (Silly Mom! I’m not a butterfly at all. I’m a furkid!) Read more »

Kyra Kyra
Female - Adult

My name is Kyra and I’m an affectionate and sociable bichon girl of about 6 years old. I am a lucky little girl and I am also a warrior. You see I was attacked by a coyote and I escaped. And the best news of all is that now I’m free! I no longer have to be in quarantine and I can find my forever home, at last!

Domino Domino
Male - Adult

My name is Domino and I’m a sweet and gentle lovebug. I am 15 pounds of happiness and sweetness – and a very special little guy too! You see I was born with unformed eyes – but that never kept me from being normal. I ran, played, loved and tumbled with my family. Then one day my family took me to the shelter … and left me! You see my spirit was still loving and giving – but they no longer had time for me. Read more »

Peanut Peanut

My name is Peanut and I’m a darling bichon mix of four who is affectionate, full of life – and just plain adorable! I’m also very loving and a natural cuddle bug. And that’s a powerful combination!

Mom wants you to know that I am full of joy and promise. She says I’m smart, willing to learn new things all the time and anxious to please. (I love being a furkid, because now I have someone to teach me those things Read more »

New Rescue! - Meet Ellie and her Four Pups

Ellie & Pups

Here are Ellie and her new puppies; they are all boys. The little black and white puppy is from another litter but little Ellie has been trying to care for him as well. We think he is probably about 4 weeks old and the other three boys are about 2 1/2 weeks old. They were living in third world poverty in San Diego - outside in a box with no food and no water.

The two little white and tan puppies are Eli and Eddie; the little brandy colored puppy (who is lying under Ellie) is Elton and the little black and white puppy is Ethan. Now they are furkids who need to be bottle fed every two hours until Ellie's milk comes in. Please say your prayers for Ellie and her puppies.

Millions of thanks to foster Mom Julie for her concern and commitment to Ellie and the puppies.

Each week BFK takes in dogs that need extra medical care or who, without surgery, would be put to sleep. These pups are in loving foster homes where they are recovering. If you care to support us with a one-time donation or would like to sponsor a pup during its recovery, know that your contribution will help these little ones to once again be whole.

Hi Friends,

I'm happy to report that I am three weeks into my recovery and I'm doing well! The handsome vet that did my surgery said I was mending just right. He said he was pleased that my elbow and leg were aligning the way they were supposed to. (I think that means that I will be able to walk and run and be the same little girl I was before my accident.) And my foster Mom will tell you that I am counting the days so I can do that.

My doggy foster brothers and sisters are trying to understand why I can't play (yet) but that's a matter of time. In about three weeks I'll get "the word" that I can start to go on walks - and after that I can start to play again. Whee! That will be perfection.

In the meantime, since I'm supposed to be quiet and restrained, I'm practicing my skills as a cuddle bug. And I practice them a lot with my foster Dad. He has to be one of the best cuddlers I know - so I'm learning from him. (Thanks, Dad!)

I'll be back in a few days with more photos and updates. In the meantime, thanks for asking about me. I'll be shining my light brilliantly in a very short time.

This little guy, who has stolen our hearts, is (as a result) named Bandit. He is having surgery called a Femoral Head Operation (FHO) on Dec. 30th. The surgery will be done in San Diego - and Bandit's recovery will take a few weeks.

We are looking for a foster who will help Bandit in his rehabilitation (gradual walking and weight bearing.) If you have the time and patience to help this little guy, please email marti@bichonfurkids.org
